Julie has been involved in body work her whole life. She started as a competitive swimmer at the age of 7 and continued while studying classical ballet. When the time came, she made the decision to give up swimming and become a ballet dancer. Starting at the Miami Conservatory to the School of American Ballet, the Royal Academy of London, Joffrey Ballet, Boston Ballet and American Ballet Theater she had studied and/or dance professionally until an injury shortened her stay in the world of ballet.
It was then while studying for a degree in Health Education that she first became certified as a personal trainer. Over the years of dancing and rehabilitating many an injury and helping friends’ through theirs, her interest grew and grew and the field of training was a perfect match to her knowledge of the body and how it works.
Julie’s Pilates studies began as a very young dancer, back in the 80’s when it was yet to be known to the public in an available way. Continuing on for strength or rehab or simply full body work, she finally decided to study Pilates with Joseph Pilates’ protege Romana Kryzanowska and Sari Mejia Santo in order to teach others. The passion it takes to practice Pilates clearly comes through in her teaching of it.
Throughout her work in personal training and Pilates, yoga caught her attention as well. Starting her studies in 1999 it also became a passion. The focus, breath and egoless approach put forth in yoga is a continual thread within Julie’s work with her clients.
Julie’s work encompasses a wide variety, whether 85 years young, pre-natal, post-natal after twins, in shape but ready to move to the next level, a teenager searching for a way to put exercise into their daily routine, increasing bone density, training for ironman, a professional snowboarder, a professional dancer, wanting the shape you had when you loved the way you looked or simply maintaining and improving your quality of life and feeling good about yourself inside as much as out. She loves to teach and enjoys the journey together with her clients as they advance and improve their health and well being. Julie especially loves to watch them grow and take an interest in what may have begun as a chore now become a lifestyle.
